1.All diseases, which happen on body surface with localized symptoms that can be directly inspected through naked eyes, belong to treatment scope of Chinese External Medicine.
2.Introduce the scope of modern Chinese External Medicine. [Teaching Method]
Multimedia lecture. Chapter 3 Etiology and Pathogenesis of External Diseases [Teaching Aim]
-Understand the features of etiology and pathogenesis of external diseases. [Teaching Content]
1.Etiology of disease: External contraction of six pathogenic factors and toxin, contracted special toxin, traumatic injury, emotional injury, improper diet and sexual overstrain.
2.Pathogenesis of disease: Explain the pathomechanism of external disease based on Qi blood, meridian and collaterals, and Zang Fu organs. Overall pathomechanism of external disease are congealing and stagnation of Qi and blood, counter flow of nutrient Qi, obstruction of meridians and collaterals and Zang Fu organs. [Teaching Method]
Multimedia lecture. Chapter 4 Syndrome differentiation of Chinese External Medicine diseases [Teaching Aim]
- Master the four diagnosis method and syndrome differentiation of localized signs and symptoms
1.Combination of disease differentiation and syndrome differentiation ~ Application of four diagnosis method in external medicine.
2.Differentiate Yang syndrome and Yin syndrome: Mainly differentiate based on localized signs and symptoms, such as, the chronicity of disease onset, disease location, colour, temperature, height, range, hardness, feeling upon touching, pus and abscess, disease progression, whole body signs and symptoms, prognosis and etc, combining both localized symptoms and whole body condition to undergo analysis.
3.Differentiate disease location: Syndrome differentiation is done based on external disease onset on the upper, middle and lower parts of body.
4.Differentiate meridians and locations: The onset location of external diseases is closely related to meridians and collaterals and therefore it is used as a reference for disease syndrome differentiation and treatment method.
5.Differentiate swelling, pain, itchiness, abscess and numbness: Differentiate swelling disease characteristics of fire, cold, wind, damp, phlegm, Qi, stagnation and blood stasis. Differentiate characteristics of disease of pain caused by heat, cold, wind, Qi, abscess formation and blood stasis. Differentiate characteristics of disease of itchiness caused by wind, damp, heat, parasite and blood deficiency. Differentiate the occurrence of pus and abscess, its management, characteristics, colour, smell and also cautions in differentiating disease of pus.
6.Differentiate colour and form of ulcer based on excess and deficiency patterns. [Teaching Method]
Multimedia lecture. Chapter 5 Chinese Medical Treatment of External Conditions [Teaching Aim]
1.Acquainted with the therapeutic principle and characteristic of external diseases:combine syndrome differentiation with disease stages.
2. Master three main treatment methods which are resolving, toxin expelling and reinforcing.
3. Master different localized treatment methods, especially the application of resolving medicine, draw out pus and dispel putridity, and promote tissue regeneration and close wound [Teaching Content]
1. Internal treatment method:
(1) Using resolving, toxin-expelling and reinforcing treatment methods as the main method to treat the initial stage, middle stage and late stage of external medicine diseases, each method listing out their adaptability, representative formula and commonly used herbs.
(2) Overall application of internal treatment method: Divided into exterior releasing, interior blocking, heat clearing, warming to unblock, phlegm eliminating, dampness regulating, Qi regulating, nutrient-Ying harmonizing, interior expelling, tonifying, stomach nourishing and etc,
2. External treatment method:
(1) Herbal therapy: Including ointment, moist medicinal powder, dusting powder drug, herbs and etc, listing out their adaptability, application method and precautions.
