Chronic prostitis
[Teaching Aim]
- Master the examination method of prostate gland
- Familiar with syndrome differentiation and treatment of this disease
[Teaching Content]
1. Concept: Definition and characteristics
2. Etiology and pathogenesis: Kidney deficiency with downward flowing of damp-heat. In acute stage, it is mainly due to damp-heat. In chronic stage, it is due to Qi stagnation and blood stasis
3. Syndrome differentiation: In acute stage, there is chills and fever and other whole body symptoms, distending pain of external genitals and excitation of urethra. In chronic stage, there are abnormal discharge followed by defecation and urination, distending pain of external genitals, scrotum and lesser abdomen. Diagnosis can be assisted by doing examination on prostate and prostatic fluid
4. Treatment: Treat according to syndrome differentiation – Accumulation and obstruction of damp-heat, interior heat due to Yin deficiency, deficiency of Kidney Yang, Qi stagnation and blood stasis
[Teaching Method]
Multimedia lecture.
Prostatic hyperplasia
[Teaching Aim]
- Master the management of Chinese medicine and Western medicine in treating acute urinary retention
- Understand the main symptoms of this disease
[Teaching Content]
1. Concept: Definition and characteristics
2. Etiology and pathogenesis: Dysfunction of Qi transformation of upper, middle and lower energizer
3. Syndrome differentiation: Dripping urination is the main symptoms. For acute urinary retention, there is no dripping urination. Hyperplasia of prostate is found out upon digital examination of anus
4. Treatment: Treat according to six syndrome differentiation – failure of dispersing and descending function of Lung, downwards flowing of damp-heat, sinking of middle Qi, Kidney Yin deficiency, Kidney Yang deficiency, Qi stagnation and blood stasis. Acupuncture, catheterization and topical application on umbilicus are used to treat acute urinary retention. If non-surgical treatment is not effective, prostatectomy can be done.
